So we had the fantastic team from Accumen Republic in the studio the other day. They are a young and dynamic team specializing in corporate and marketing communication.
It was important to create a professional image but still portray their individual personalities and create an overall sense of fun.
Kudos to everybody cause it's not easy to drop your inhibitions and act like a clown :)
The images will be used on their website, client proposals, LinkedIn marketing material.
Paul from Alchemy Equities contacted us recently about getting some corporate headshots done urgently for an upcoming public relations piece.
While we were doing the photoshoot we made sure we covered a range of different looks. After all you never know when you need a photo of yourself in a hurry and for what purpose.
With Paul we covered all the bases including a formal headshot with tie perfect for an annual report or formal publication. But we also included images with no tie which are slightly more relaxed and friendly which would be great for a LinkedIn profile photo or website image.
And then we have the black & white images on a dark background which would be great for an editorial or a more personal story as these images reflect a lot of character.
Finally we shot a mixture of closer up photos. Head and Shoulder images are great for social media avatars where your image size is limited. On the other hand the 3/4 length portraits are great for print publications.
Now whenever Paul needs an image whether it's for the annual report or biography for a speaker commitment or that last minute PR story he is all set and doesn't have to worry about where to find that image.
We also understand how important to get the images to our clients ASAP. Paul came in for a session at lunch and we got a selection of images to him the same day for selection. The next morning he had made his selection of images. The images were retouched and sent to Paul within a couple of hours.
That included providing high resolution images as well as a web sized image and a set of images re-sized specifically for LinkedIn.
When it comes to deciding on black and white or colour portraiture for you professional head shots, it's important to consider how you want to come across to your clients, customers or prospective employers.
Black and white portraits can be customised to appear traditional or more artistic depending on your occupation. Authors, actors and models would benefit from a more artistic-style black and white head shot, where as academics, lecturers and executives can opt for a traditional black and white portrait to suit their professional status.
On the other hand, colour portraits exude personality and suggest a modern feel to your photograph. Personal trainers, entertainers, models, real estate agents, financial professionals etc would suit a colour portrait to suggest their personality and to suit their occupation.
Having the option of both to suit your different profiles, websites and portraits for different situations is beneficial to your corporate image and business.
While we focus on creating corporate images that reflect the needs of our clients we also enjoy creating artistic portraits or character portraits.
On the left side we have a nice classic corporate head shot which reflects Doug's easy going nature. This is the kind of image that will soon be on Doug's business website as well as his LinkedIn page and facebook business page. Doug is a copywriter.
On the right we have a portrait that is not necessarily going on the website but will look amazing when printed and framed.

In the past I have taken corporate portraits of each member and these portraits need to be updated every now and then. So after the staff photo we took the opportunity to redo everyone's individual head shot again.
So, what's the difference between a formal head shot and an environmental portrait? A formal head shot is usually in front of a plain background while an environmental portrait usually involves being on location in the subjects office or professional environment. By putting the subject in context, the client or customer will be able to get a sense of their work ethic, their personality and what kind of professional they are.
